Signal - Private Messenger App Reviews

Who knows,...

In todays world do we really know if this works or not? There is no way to tell. If it works as described, and so far has been easy to use, thats great. The key here is to stop putting your life online for the entire world to see. It would be great if somehow you could tell if the thing works as described. In any event it seems better than other apps out there. I used this to talk to my daughter when she was in St. Thomas because our data plan doesnt cover that area. We were both on wifi and it worked flawlessly. We incurred no extra charges. Ill keep this one around because of this and its secure rating so I am increasing my rating to 5 stars.

Observation

Very private app to use...

The standard in security.

For those complaining about access to contacts you should read up the protocols architecture.

One of The Best

this app is "one of the best". security and personal life is so important into this mixed world!!!

very very nice

its awsome

Secure! I think?

Easy to use app. Not sure how to evaluate the security of the transaction unless I look at the NSA database myself.

Im so glad this exists

And the implementation is so good. Thank you for making it.

Corrupted

App became corrupted. Cannot remove from iPhone. NO CUSTOMER SUPPORT!!!!

Superb!

Useful and totally secured!

Great for privacy!

1000/1000 its amazing!

Good UI, good reputation

The app has a good UI, a good commitment to open source, and a good pedigree in the crypto community. Works well and is cross platform. Shows you who else uses the app and lets you call or text them securely. Love it.

Crash and no pic.

This version crashes at phone call and pictures are showed being sent but the reciever gets nothing.

No way to prove it works

It doesnt tell you how the encryption works. Additionally, the private texts show up in your notification center and there is no way to just get the notification without seeing the actual message. You should be able to customize it like iPhone messages, or just not see it at all, seeing how its supposed to be a private message

Signal

Works great, but would never use for highly sensitive info.

Good stuff

Its one of the only apps my incredibly paranoid friend trusts to use. Great intuitive layout and thus far reliable

Good app for private messaging with regular improvements

I would like two other features: 1. Ability to search messages 2. Ability to see a time stamp on an individual message not just on a chunk of messages

Perfect rating from the EFF

They also provided the encryption behind Whatsapp.

No privacy. Requires ph # and contacts access

Gets 1 star for the end to end encryption. Otherwise, the developers have no clue as to what it means to create a messaging app that truly and completely respects its users privacy. Requires a phone number in order to register. A phone number can be used to find ones name and address. Other messaging apps only require picking a username and password in order to register. Requires full access to your entire contacts information. They say the data is not stored on their servers, but how can users be sure? My contacts that dont use Signal never agreed to have their data shared with the company behind signal. Apple has a method for developers to allow users to add contacts one by one into an app but Signal wants ALL of your contacts info. Other messaging apps that use usernames dont require access to any of your existing iPhone contacts info. Signal should introduce usernames and make phone numbers and full contacts access optional. Until they do, Signal should not be considered a truly private messaging app.

Could improve

This app is recommended by Edward Snowden, so I guess its pretty safe to use. People should stop complaining about giving contacts access. The app was always intended for privacy, not anonymity. It would be perfect if there was an incognito mode. A way to talk to another user without giving your phone number. Instead of registering phone numbers, giving the option to register an username (like Skype or Wickr). You can use another phone to receive the SMS registration though. Another welcomed feature is message timer.

Works great for our family

With family living in different countries this app works great for us.
